Boyabat Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant (HEPP) is on the river Kızılırmak and located 180 km east of Samsun and 150 km south of Sinop. The project will have the highest installed capacity among the private sector investments in Turkey. The Dam, which has 6,000 ha reservoir area, has an installed capacity of 513 MW and expected electricity generation is 1.5 billion kWh per year.
Boyabat HEPP is one of the 24 hydro plants, which is planned to be constructed on Kızılırmak river. Seven of these projects have been completed and are currently operating.
Boyabat HEPP which was currenty constructed by Dogus Insaat is expected to be operational by the end of year 2012. For the financing of the project, 750 million USD long term project finance credit has been obtained from 4 local banks.
